This statue replica of Michelangelo’s David lives on my friend’s terrace in the South of France. Not only is he stylish, donning sunglasses and even a santa hat during the Holiday season, he’s also very helpful, always willing to hold the hose, barbecue tools, etc.
I can’t help but marvel at the artistic process, and picture Michelangelo at work. I love his words: ‘Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.’
Those words can be said about any work of art, but also about life. I’ve learned that the greatest personal breakthroughs always involve discovering something that was there the whole time.
Our friend David on the terrace also reminds me to never give up on my dreams, but to be patient and trust the process. It was also Michelangelo who said if people knew how hard he’d worked to gain his mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful at all…
